Memories Hidden in the Hills of Nahargarh

Memories Hidden in the Hills of Nahargarh — image 1

Our recent trip to Nahargarh Fort turned out to be one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. At that time, it felt like just another casual outing with friends from VGU.

From the very beginning of our trip, finding a cab itself became a challenge. We tried booking a ride to Nahargarh Fort, but most drivers refused because the fort is located high in the hills. After waiting for a long time and trying again and again, nobody seemed ready to take us there. Slowly, the excitement started turning into frustration. But after several failed attempts, one driver finally agreed to take us to the fort.

On the way, we requested him to stop for a while at Jal Mahal so that we could enjoy the view and click some pictures. Jal Mahal looked absolutely beautiful in the evening light. The calm lake, the peaceful atmosphere, and the reflection of the palace in the water created a magical scene. We laughed, clicked pictures, teased each other, and enjoyed those carefree moments without realizing how precious they would later become.

After spending some time there, we continued our journey in the same cab towards Nahargarh Fort. The road was full of sharp turns, cool winds, and breathtaking views of Jaipur city. As we climbed higher into the Aravalli hills, the city lights slowly began to sparkle below us. By the time we reached the fort, the evening sky had already started changing colors. We waited there for one of our friends who was coming separately, and once she finally joined us, our group felt complete.

As we walked towards the main area of the fort, the sunset created one of the most beautiful views I had ever seen. The golden-orange sky spreading over the city, the cool breeze touching our faces, and the laughter of friends around me made the moment feel perfect. For a little while, nothing else mattered. We were simply enjoying life.

While exploring the fort, we also experienced a surprising incident involving monkeys. A large group of monkeys was roaming freely around the area, snatching food and belongings from tourists. Some people were even chased by them. At first, it seemed funny, but after watching the chaos closely, we became careful too. Still, that unexpected drama added even more excitement to our trip.

After spending hours at the fort, taking pictures, talking, and enjoying the view, we decided to head back. But once again, transportation became a challenge because there were barely any cabs available near the fort at night. Eventually, we booked an auto-rickshaw to return towards Jal Mahal.

That ride became one of the most thrilling parts of the entire journey. As the auto moved through the dark mountain roads, the driver suddenly started telling us stories about tigers wandering around the nearby forest areas late at night. One of my friends casually mentioned seeing something moving near the roadside. The driver immediately became serious, asked everyone to stay quiet, and even switched off the lights of the auto for a few moments. He called someone on the phone and warned them to be careful while travelling through the area.

At that moment, silence filled the auto. The dark roads, the mysterious hills, and the possibility of a tiger somewhere nearby genuinely shocked all of us. Even though we never actually saw one, the suspense itself made the moment unforgettable. When we finally reached Jal Mahal safely, we all started laughing again, but deep inside everyone was still thinking about what had just happened.

Later that night, we explored the area around Jal Mahal once again, enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, and finally booked a cab back home. We returned tired but happy, carrying countless memories with us.

Today, when I look back at that trip, I realize that the most beautiful part was not just the fort, the sunset, or the adventure. It was the people. At that time, none of us knew that life would slowly change afterward. With time, friend groups changed, priorities changed, and people became busy with their own lives. Some friendships became distant, while others faded naturally. The people with whom I laughed the most that evening are not as close today as they once were, and perhaps that is how life works.

But despite everything, that trip still remains close to my heart. Sometimes, the best memories are the ones we never realize are becoming memories while we are living them. And that evening at Nahargarh Fort will always remain one of those moments for me.
